i still don't believe the immense competition this dragon batch is facing... with people with grades of ABD not making it into NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Science, i really wonder what the world is coming to...

doesn't a grade "A" means a distinction? or a mark above the rest? then why a person with a distinction doesn't get himself accepted into a local university...

this is the scene of singapore, today... of what is often called elitism, or better called, pragmatism... we get the best, and only the best... it never is we make the best out of what we got...

singapore has sadly been degraded into such a elitist society, and here we are expecting to be a global education schoolhouse??? if singapore only want geniuses in, wouldn't it be more appropriate calling singapore the global middleman? you take in people [whom you think are good and deserves your attention], repackage them [into something you yourself think would be in great demand], and send them off again...

entrepot trade as we learnt in secondary school geography... we used to do it to products and palletized goods, now we're doing it to people...

and the factory model of education hasn't changed a bit since then... just like chicken eggs, sorted by weight and type, we students are being sorted out and packed into containers to be shipped to where there is demand...

who knows, sooner or later the NUS admission criteria reads:
  • prospective students must have obtained a graduate degree from a reputable university.
  • a studying experience of at least 10 years mugging in a tertiary institution
  • knowledge of textbooks and their usage is a benefit
Singapore, the global schoolhouse...
hmmz... how about...
Singapore, the global marketplace...
or...
Singapore, the global slaugherhouse...
