it's really interesting the kind of question people ask at university welcoming tea sessions...
"It has been said that Singapore universities produce graduates who can memorise well, but not think well. Comment."
(no joke! that guy actually said the "comment" at the back... though the front words might not be exactly the same, but the meaning is there...)
and I was like, "ok, answers should be between 500 and 800 words in length. 20 out of 50 marks would be awarded for your use of language. You have 90 minutes." [and i actually referred to RJC's sample GP questions to get that 3 instructions out]
... and ...
"Will I get into food science?"
(yes, that's the end of that sentence; and remember there's about 500 other people in the same LT)
the next question from the same person:
"If so, how?"
(in my life, i wouldn't want to be a dean of a university, especially a singaporean university)
... and another one ...
"NTU offers a course in TCM [Traditional Chinese Medicine], why NUS doesn't?"
(ok, so should NUS offer tourism? how about hotel management? ok, how about philosophy? nuclear physics?)
tell me they're accepting only the top 10% of A Level students into FOS... i would have believed 9.9999% went into medicine and dentistry...
