on sundays, ALL hotels in orchard will be fully booked by christian churches for their Sunday Services... that is one statistic that the pastor shared with us today... and quite a number of them are operating unregistered in singapore... so that's really something for us christians to be joyous about... because there are more and more singaporeans turning to christianity... imagine, ALL the ballrooms and conference rooms in the Orchard Road district are booked by churches for sunday services... that'll easily be 40,000 people worshipping on sundays within orchard road... plus, Singapore has the second largest church in the whole of Asia, just behind of Korea... that's really something to be jubilant about... but the question is: "are we all doing the right thing? and doing what God really wants us to do???"
well, we christian churches have been preaching and teaching day and night about faith, hope, joy and love... and adapting God's example to our daily lives... and that has been very successful... many books teaching on successful relationship and character developments based on the bible has been on the top-selling lists since forever... but the question is: "is that all???" "is Christianity just based on faith, hope, joy and love???"
the main point the pastor is trying to drive home is that many christian churches are now driving at something that is highly marketable, but yet missing out on the most important thing that not only makes people christians, but makes christians recognised by our God in heaven... and it is the fact that all of us "have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through redemption that came by Christ Jesus" [Romans 3:23-24]... that all of us are sinners and are originally not deserving of being in heaven, and that there is absolutely no human ability to earn for ourselves a place in heaven. But by grace and love God sent his son Jesus to come to this world and to die on the cross for us and to bear the sins of the world upon his shoulders, such that all who believed in God's son Jesus Christ will gain eternal life in heaven. Only by admitting that fact, and believing in that, that people can be saved from the sins of this world and be brought up to heaven to enjoy eternity with the God who created heaven and earth.
And i really find that it's very true... many churches today have been actively talking about love love love and more love... and no, it's not the least bit wrong... but have they been missing out on the most important message that they have been sent to preach??? have the large churches been too actively preaching about rock music and entertainment and missed the point that will bring the hundreds of thousands of christians in their churches to heaven??? i think that is really something worth considering... have we been preaching the wrong gospel???
