went to Canton Wok by Chef Kang at Joo Chiat for my mum's Birthday cum Mothers' Day celebration today.. together with my aunt and my cousin, the five of us ordered the six person set.. and it was a horribly full, yet a voluptuously delicious lunch..
sharks' fin was great.. because they had so much of it inside that i was practically chewing on it with every spoonful of the soup.. plus they had a huge big boneless chicken in the soup, which i gladly dipped it in the nice chilli that the provided..
then came the mayo prawns.. it was sliced from the middle into half.. so we ate it lobster-style (i.e. to dig it out from the shell).. and the prawns are super sweet and juicy!! it's probably the 2nd freshest prawns i ate (right behind the Prawn Dumplings from Crystal Jade Holland Village)..
then came the fish.. i have no idea what kind of fish it is, but it's huge and it's super soft.. cooked in chilli and loads of red onions, there's no trace of any "fishy" smell at all..
then there was the vegetables.. once again i have no idea what vegetables they are.. but they are served with whole deep fried garlic.. and they tasted gorgeous!!
then came the noodles.. this dish became very plain because of the fanciful dishes that preceded it.. but it still tasted nice..
then was the steamed crab on glutinous rice with garlic.. ohmygoodness this is definitely the MUST-HAVE dish at this place.. even eating the rice alone is satisfactory already.. the rice was literally infested with huge bacon chips, with a very generous splatter of egg in between.. there's no need to mention about how fantastic the crab tasted..
then we had yam paste.. which is the best i've ever tasted.. it's not too sweet, and there's a very very very wholesome yam taste (unlike most yam paste nowadays with more flour than yam).. it comes with 白果 too..
all these for $188 + 7% GST.. oh but they charged us for peanuts, towels and tea.. so it totalled up to $212.40.. about $42 per person.. quite reasonable for such a generous serving of everything..
