it's been 3 weeks since the start of my job; and i must say it carries with it it's fun, and surprises..
first off, the hospital stores certain files in the mortuary! imagine the thought of having to go to the mortuary to look for files (and mind you, it's not the air-con part of it).. but in the exact opposite, it's a dusty place with faulty fans that doesn't move when turned on but might start moving out of the sudden even if you do not turn it on.. and there's the musky and damp smell in it.. plus the constant humming of some electronic gadget.. oh and there's the usual faulty compactus that requires my full body weight to push (but thankfully they only store deceased case-notes in the compactus so i very rarely have to use it).. and if that's not enough, they're actually examining corpses next to where they put the files.. so imagine taking a file and opening the door to freedom outside when you see a guy wearing full surgical gown and face-mask pushing a covered trolley into a van.. then you start thinking whether you should have put on a face-mask first, or whether there's still time to bolt for the open area..
and how about the funniest joke? imagine seeing a request for a patient called "unknown chinese".. then you start wondering where to start.. and then you thank the immigration department for the NRIC.. oh but that's not the best, imagine receiving a request for file from the Accident & Emergency Department, about a patient walk-in.. and upon checking the patient's particulars, you find out the person passed away 6 months ago.. then you think about how on earth did that guy turn up at A&E again! to some, it's not funny at all; but oh well, these are some very entertaining facts pertaining to my job..
somehow i think it's a fun job, but sometimes i still get a little freaked out by the incidences that happen in a hospital..
